Boxtops For Democracy?

I forgot to mention the best part of being a GOP team leader! For every action that you engage in (such as sending a flaming fax to Satan himself, Ted Kennedy), you get valuable GOP points! It's true! You can redeem them for hats, coolers, and nisty GOP merchandising - just like Joe Camel!
Attacks On A.N.S.W.E.R.

After the right gave up trying to limit the message of the peace marchers by questioning their numbers, they moved on to bashing A.N.S.W.E.R. By claiming that the organization was made up of Stalinists, they were looking to smear all of the protesters with the same label. No matter what the response of the Left is, there's no way to win when you play on such stupid terms:

"Protest, what protest? There were only 10,000 people there!"

Actually, there were hundreds of thousands."

"Well, they're all a bunch of Stalinists."

Actually, they were mostly everyday people including some Republicans."

"Well, ..." blah, blah blah...and so it goes! There's no going back to examining the untruths of the first claims because of the unending volley of new lies that keep coming. Then the whole thing melts away when a new issue comes along. This is how the Right doesn't ever have to answer for any of the ridiculous platforms it attempts to promulgate. Just say anything is their motto. The Left is still acting like a deer in the headlights, stunned by the last outrageous thing some right winged commentator said. Limbaugh & Coulter have made a career out of this. Facts? Hah! Fuck those? Ethics? Same! Say whatever the hell you want!

Liberal commentators don't need to take on this way of operating, despite the casting call the DNC made for a "pit-bull" of the left. Responding to the Right when they do this only plays into the game. We need to deal with it differently.

Sometimes I think that the best way to convince the American People that the Republicans agenda is dangerous for this country and the world is to sit back and let the GOP drive for a while. However, we've only got one planet so that's probably not a good idea. What the left might want to think about is publicizing at their Right's record
a little better. Embrace the class war, I say! Start talking about the polarization of wealth and the dismantling of the labor unions. Start talking about what the president means by "average tax cut." Start using Bush's exploitation of his religion against him. Start looking at where those in the forefront of criticizing A.N.S.W.E.R are getting their paychecks.

Let's get going on this.

Limbusted

There's a movement afoot to boycott companies that advertise on Rush Limbaugh's hateful show. Info
here.
That's Captain Caseous,Team Leader If You Please:

Well, I finally took the leap and volunteered to be a GOP team leader in order to help organize all these astroturf campaigns to support our "president." This way I get to hear all the Republican talking points before they are said, spontaneous commentary before it's made, and read all those down-home, " was just moved to sit down and write this," before each identical letter is published in papers across the country! Is this great or what? Don't get left out -you can join here, too.

A Happy Coincidence

A lot of letters to the editor have been showing up in newspapers across the country praising Bush's leadership on the economy (huh?). It's part of an astroturf campaign (fake grassroots) on behalf of the GOP and it's amazing that the editors of said newspapers haven't noticed that the letters are practically word for word the same. Check it out over at Atrios.

Does it make sense that, at this particular time, so many people would write identical letters to the editor praising thee economy? Yeah, you're right. I'm just a crazy left-winged conspiracy theorist.

30 Years Of Wading

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Roe V. Wade and I hope that you'll be attending one of the celebrations in your local town square (as advertised on the front page of your local newspaper). What, you say that there's no such activity or no such mention in your local media. What a shock!

And so the great minefield of American politics continues to blow up under our feet. As a supporter of the endangered ruling, I've always felt this to be a problem of two sides arguing about two completely different things. The anti abortionists (the rhetoric of pro-life and pro-choice are misleading) are concerned with one individual and the pro abortionists are concerned with the other. Now, each can argue that they are concerned with both individuals, but their primary concern is either the mother or the child. This obvious fact will always stand in the way to a solution or a compromise. Perhaps, for the benefit of the mother and the child, the debate needs to be redefined. How that will be done remains a mystery and , until this mystery is solved, the rights of people who are already on Earth must trump those who are not here, as hard as that sounds.

With that in mind, it seems that the antiabortionists keep missing the point. If thier goal is to stop abortion and protect children (and women), I don't see how banning abortion doest that. Abortions would still happen if they were illegal, only they would endanger the women who underwent them more. Children would continue to be neglected, only more so. Abstinince only sex-ed policies have been shown to actually increase the rate of teen pregnancy. How do these apporaches protect anyone and make the world a better place?

Re: Those Calling the Protestors Present At Last Saturday's Rally "Traitors.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." ---Theodore Roosevelt
I'm Not Bothering To Check The Source On This One

I like it but don't really care if it's rea or not:

The following ad was in The Atlanta Journal:

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good looking girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping, and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm yours.
