Is Ken Starr Free?

WASHINGTON -- The investigative arm of Congress on Friday ended its unsuccessful effort to force Vice President Dick Cheney to reveal the energy industry's role in formulating the Bush administration's energy plan.

General Accounting Office chief David Walker said the watchdog agency will not appeal a Dec. 9 court ruling in favor of the Bush White House, which refuses to reveal which industry executives and lobbyists Cheney and his aides met with in the early months of the administration.

"GAO strongly believes the district court's decision is incorrect," said Walker, the GAO's comptroller general.

But "further pursuit of the ... information would require investment of significant time and resources over several years," Walker said. Several private organizations are pursuing the same information in separate court cases, he noted.

Yeah, sounds like too much work. Let's go play some golf...

And The Mitre Hat Makes A Nice Bong!

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) -- A raid at two mobile homes led to the arrest of 31-year-old Jesus Santana, who was caught rolling marijuana cigarettes with pages from a Bible, Limestone County authorities said.

"When we arrested him, he made the comment that `I guess God got y'all to get me,"' said Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.

You Have Your Orders:

This weeks GOP talking points are in! Look for plagerized versions of them in you local letters to the editor soon!

The hot topic is the budget plan. The claims, tailored for my state are:

845,000 married couples in Massachusetts would no longer be required to pay the unfair marriage tax penalty;

Improves health care by investing $400 billion in Medicare and prescription drug benefits, including $4.58 billion for Massachusetts;

540,000 married couples and single parents in Massachusetts benefit by increasing the child tax credit from $600 to $1,000;

$53.1 billion in historic education funding that includes $240 million for Massachusetts's high-poverty schools and $92.6 million for its school lunch program.

Not a lot of time to point out the obvious flaws in this budget plan but I'll get to it soon. However, keep in mind that once again talking about tax cuts and increased spending. What's odd is, not only are these cuts & spending increases mostly false, they are usually what the GOP critisizes the Democrats for. What nuts these cut & spend Republicans are! I wish I had the ability to make money magically appear like they do!

The Answer Key

Ah...on that there post one below this here one, that answer would indeedy be C! Bush, in his report on the budget, did actually wite that the tax cut caused and increased the deficit. See, we knew he could tell the truth, right?
Burried In The Budget

The Bush administration keeps pushing for an extension on tax cuts while going deeper into a defict. While any reasonable 5 year old would see the problem with this, it's clear that the loyal opposition can't seem to field one to state the obvious. If you're spending more while simultaneously giving away a lot of money to people who already have a lot of money, you're probably going to have less money, in the end. I know that this seems like rocket science, but, for some reason, people find faith in the government's ability to "mov a little monet around". People, when it's all used up -it's gone! Money going from one place is taken from another and it should make us all nervous when its done.

Furthermore, Bush continually justifies his tax cut by saying that its helping to moderate the recession, not increase it. He claims that we would have double digit inflation had not each of us gotten that check for $300. Does this sound reasonable? If you said "no,: then you are in agreement with the authors of this passage:

An economic slowdown began in 2001 and was exacerbated by the terrorists' attacks of September 11, 2001. The deterioration in the performance of the economy together with income tax relief provided to help offset the economic slowdown and additional spending in response to the terrorist attacks produced a drop in the surplus to $127.1 billion (1.3% of GDP) and a return to deficits ($157.8 billion, 1.5% of GDP) in 2002.

Let's play guess the source: Is it A) Free Market Fantasies: Capatlism In The Real World by Noam Chomsky B) The Rugrats In Paris (novelization) or C) The Historical Tables Volumes from the 2004 White House Budget Report?

Our Best Argument: Proof Schmoof! This Is The Evidence?

Today in his speech, Powell made his case against Iraq. Read these and ask yourself "is this proof" and "should we go to war over this?"

-- Said Iraq is working on developing missiles with a range of 1,000 kilometers -- about 620 miles -- or more, putting Russia and other nations beyond Iraq's immediate neighbors in potential danger.

--Played audio tapes of what Powell said were intercepted phone conversations between Iraqi military officers. One was a purported discussion about hiding prohibited vehicles from weapons inspectors. Another dealt with removing a reference to nerve agents from written instructions.

--Cited informants as saying that Iraqis are dispersing rockets armed with biological weapons in western Iraq.

--Presented declassified satellite pictures that he said showed 15 munitions bunkers. Powell said four of them had active chemical munitions inside.

--Said satellites observed cleanup activities at nearly 30 suspected weapons sites in the days before inspectors arrived.

--Said Iraqi informants claim that Iraq has 18 trucks that it uses as mobile biological weapons labs.

He "said" these things. How is this proof? Even if it is, we're going to war because someone claims that Iraq has some trucks serving as labs? Beacuse a picture shows a building that someone says is stocked with weapons? Beacuse they may one day build rockets that could travel 1000km? Isn't this just a little hypothetical? Circumstantial? This is the best case the government cann make? Not only is this wrong, this is just embarassing...

This Speaks For Itself

Guernica Reproduction Covered at UN

NEW YORK.- The "Guernica" work by Pablo Picasso at the entrance of the Security Council of the United Nations has been covered with a curtain. The reason for covering this work is that this is the place where diplomats make statements to the press and have this work as the background. The Picasso work features the horrors of war. On January 27 a large blue curtain? was placed to cover the work.

Fred Eckhard, press secretary of the U.N. said: "It is an appropriate background for the cameras." He was questioned as to why the work had been covered.

A diplomat stated that it would not be an appropriate background if the ambassador of the United States at the U.N. John Negroponte, or Powell, talk about war surrounded with women, children and animals shouting with horror and showing the suffering of the bombings.

This work is a reproduction of the Guernica that was donated by Nelson A. Rockefeller to the U.N. in 1985.

Amazons And Nudists

Searching for a book, I came across a strange marketing approach by Amazon. It started "Customers who wear clothes also shop for:" See what these odd people are buying here.
