Trent Lott, Man Of The People

"The Senate voted overwhelmingly today to give an increased child tax credit to millions of low-income families who did not receive it in the new tax law, moving rapidly to quell an issue that Democrats had used to portray Republicans as brutish toward the poor.

--snip--

Although almost every Senate Republican voted for the bill, some clearly were unhappy at having to do so under what they considered public pressure from liberal groups and Democrats. Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi voted for the bill, but as he did so he stuck his tongue out, put his finger in his mouth and made a gagging sound, indicating his apparent distaste for the bill. Why Doesn't Anyone Call Him On This Crap?

"Steve Kroft: Mr. Secretary, what do you say to people who think this is about oil?

Rumsfeld: Nonsense. It just isn't. There are certain things like that, myths, that are floating around. I'm glad you asked. It has nothing to do with oil, literally nothing to do with oil."

Of course. We were never concernd about the oil. We don't hang around the Persian Gulf, playing pals with the Saudis, schmoozing the Kuwattis, and living large in Qatar because of the oil. We just love spending $50,000,000,000+ a year to guard the place because of its attractive, desert wasteland scenery. Why didn't some reporter suggest: "ah, isn't that the whole, damn reason we're there, Mr. Rumsfeld?" Another possibility: it could be that Rumsfeld doesn't know about the oil. Someone could illuminate him: "Did you know that the region including Iraq has significant oil reserves?" To which, Rumsfeld could reply "gosh, really?!"

Someone call me when American stop buying this manure.

Horse meat found in salami
4 June 2003

Salami on sale in the UK could contain horse and donkey meat, the Food Standards Agency said today.

The agency announced an investigation to analyse what goes into
salami, chorizo and pastrami.

It follows a survey carried out by local authorities in Hull, Durham, Northumberland, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire which found horse meat in three of the 24 samples of salami tested.

Rosemary Hignett, the FSA's head of food labelling, said: "There are concerns that UK consumers could unwittingly be eating horse and perhaps donkey meat when they buy a salami or similar product.

"Some people may prefer not to eat these products, even though food safety is not the issue and they are often traditional recipes."
